Kindergarten is a balanced ecosystem of play-based and cognitive skills-based methodologies being woven together in order to address the whole child. Kindergarteners experience curriculum that is child-centered and focused on holistic development of socio-emotional wellbeing, a sense of community, confidence, communication and academic skills via discovery and project-based learning engagements. Positive class culture framed in democratic principles of equity, access, friendship, compassion, critical thinking skills and active listening are modeled, supported and encouraged in every aspect of class culture, including academic and socio-emotional development. Systems of understanding connections in academics and communities are explored via arts and project-based learning thematic units of study. Multiple modalities by way of New Literacies of study including auditory, visual, musical, kinesthetic, and technological are a part of the class culture, instruction and exploration.
